NonLinear began as a small electronic music project in 1994. Influenced by the Music Concrete movement in the 50's, the band had composed pieces exclusively using sampled sounds from the environment. "The Root" is one such piece, which has been included on the NonLinear album, Sound is Free.
Since then, NonLinear has greatly expanded its range to include analogue synthesizers, digital samplers, and even an occasional vocal track. Help Wanted Productions is proud to present the first formal release of these songs which have been digitally remastered directly from the original Nonlinear source tapes.
Sound is Free contains an absorbing variety of sounds, styles, and sensations and includes pieces such as the epic "Yes Mod," a 15 minute assault of analogue modulations and perturbations that establish a mind-altering soundscape of tension, fear, and release. Using instruments ranging from a monsterous modular Arp 2500 synthesizer to a walkman tape deck this release defines Nonlinear for all electronic and experimental music fanatics.
